In what direction should we go?

As I left the ladies’ restroom after exiting my aircraft, I knew I needed to head straight to the C Concourse to board my connecting flight in this unfamiliar airport. I wondered if I was moving  in the right direction, but I just kept walking down the crowded path. I jumped right into the flow of other fast-moving people walking, and some even running, in two different directions to reach their assigned destinations.

Taking a few more steps, I realized the corridor’s familiar overhead, directional signage no longer contained the large arrow indicating the way to my C Concourse. It had been clearly marked a few minutes earlier. Had I turned the wrong direction when I left the restroom? My uneasy feeling caused me to hesitate.

“Wait! Where did that arrow go? I know I need to move towards the C Concourse. Let me look at my travel app again.“This internal conversation made me anxious, as I was traveling alone.

Slowly, I looked in the opposite direction and then, reluctantly, up at the sign hanging from the ceiling that seemed to glare back at me (almost sarcastically), clearly confirming my feet were going in the wrong direction. I made an about-face and laughed at myself as I headed the right way to my gate, happily feeling a moment of relief. I bet there were travelers who saw me just a few minutes earlier passing their gate and wondered why I was returning to their area again ….

Yep. I had done it again. To say that I get “turned around” sometimes would be an understatement! My family and close friends know that I rarely drive or walk in an unknown city without the help of several apps. I am sure you are not like me (smile), but it is curious how easily I can get lost just moving about a new location. Be advised if you travel with me and I say go one direction, you should politely smile, turn, and go in the opposite direction! I will not be offended. I will probably just laugh. I have now warned you.

Sometimes, we just need help with simple directions. At other times, like this month in our country and in my state of Texas, we need an entire detailed map of the terrain to know what the heck is actually happening in our cities, streets, and camps. We are hurting and stumbling on our journey.

I do not have all the answers for the struggles and deep loss many have experienced recently. I hurt for the families in my community. I do not know all the details of the tragic events, but I know enough to cry and pray for comfort and grace. These are real life-changing, unexpected events.

In what direction should we go? We are desperate for answers. We need guidance. There is no app for days like these. We will not find the wisdom we need apart from leaning on God. I believe He cares and sees ALL of it.

I have experienced great loss … and I have been lost. There are no easy answers. However, I have found that I can look up and head in the right direction. I accept on a daily basis that I am desperate for wisdom from above.

Join me in looking up, and let’s find direction for the days ahead … together.

Listening Library: “Desperate” (Jamie MacDonald)

Desperate

I'm at the end of myself and I'm

Tired, I've tried all that I know to do

Right now it's just by a thread but I'm

I'm hanging on to you

I'm running out of hope

I need a miracle

And if I ever needed you, it's right now

Oh God, I'm desperate

Down on my knees

Send help from heaven'

Cause that's what I need

Redeem this wreckage

Restore my peace

I'm not asking, I'm begging

Lord, come through for me

I need heaven and I'm

Desperate

Desperate

Oh, I need heaven, need heaven and I'm

Prayed all the prayers I can pray but I

I won't stop knocking 'til you open the door

You can move a mountain

You can calm a storm

I know you can 'cause I've seen it before

Oh God, I'm desperate

Down on my knees

Send help from heaven

'Cause that's what I need

Redeem this wreckage

Restore my peaceI'm not asking, I'm begging

Lord, come through for me

I need heaven and I'm

desperate(Oh, I'm) desperate

Oh, I need heaven, need heaven and I'm

(Oh, I'm) desperate

(Oh, I'm) desperate

Oh, I need heaven, need heaven and I'm

Oh (ooh), oh (ooh), oh (ooh)

And you're my only hope

I need a miracle

And if I ever needed you, it's right now

Oh God, I'm desperate

Down on my knees

Send help from heaven

'Cause that's what I need

Redeem this wreckage

Restore my peace

I'm not asking, I'm begging

Lord, come through for me

I need heaven and I'm

desperate

(Oh, I'm) desperate

Oh, I need heaven, need heaven and I'm

(Oh, I'm) desperate

(Oh, I'm) desperate

Oh, I need heaven, need heaven and I'm

(Desperate)
